Whether or not it’s flea season, you don’t want these pests around your house and your pets. If you already have an infestation, you should be prepared to get rid of them from all angles of your place. Of course, there are products that you can use to remove these opportunistic pests in your house. However, not every pet owner is keen on using chemicals on their beloved cats or dogs.

To remove fleas and prevent them from coming back, here are natural remedies to try:

1. Citrus Comb

You will need a flea comb, but if you don’t have one, use a fine-toothed comb. Have two to three lemons ready, a pot, a spray bottle, and three cups of water. Pour all water to a pot on the stove and add the lemons. Wait until the water boils and let the solution steep for three hours. When finished, strain the lemons and place the liquid into the spray bottle. Use the solution whenever you comb your cat or dog. Fleas don’t like the smell of lemons and they will soon leave your pets alone.

2. Acidic Spray

Just like lemons, fleas are not too fond of apple cider vinegar. Whenever your cat or dog takes a bath, apply the vinegar to your pet’s body. What’s great about this technique is that it does not change the pH levels of the animal, whether you have a dog or a cat. Also, this can be used on younger pets. In a spray bottle, fill it with seven cups of apple cider vinegar, which you will apply on the coat of your pet. After letting it sit for at least five minutes, you can use a very mild shampoo for your cat or dog. Make sure you rinse thoroughly.

3. Night Light Flea Trap

Fleas aren’t the brightest creatures in the world and they are often attracted to light. Take advantage of this by getting a shallow dish, warm water, some dish soap, and the most important item of all, a night light. Fill the dish with warm water that has the dish soap. Place it under the night light. Every morning, check the trap, remove what’s in there, and repeat the whole process again. This is an effective way of controlling the fleas in your house, so they don’t get to your pets.

You shouldn’t just get rid of the fleas on your pets because they could be all over your house. Use the methods above to remove them from your home without going for the harsh, chemical-loaded ways.

These tips can also be used to get rid of other small pests like ants.
